Comme le titre l’indique, cette catégorie comprend les films qui sont une adaptation directe d’un texte écrit par Lovecraft. En un sens, cette catégorie constitue l’essentiel du cinéma lovecraftien. D’ailleurs certains des meilleurs films mentionnés dans cet article font partie de cette catégorie.

À noter que selon certaines sources, les ressemblances entre l'oeuvre de Lovecraft et le segment The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verril de Creepshow ainsi qu'avec La Marca del muerto (Creature of the Walking Dead) ne serait que le fruit du hasard. Je serai portée à être d'accord.

Si vous n'avez qu'un film à voir dans cette catégorie, c'est assurément The Call of Cthulhu. Le projet est vraiment génial : faire un film d'époque pour créer l'effet qu'aurait eu pareille production du vivant de Lovecraft. Le résultat est impressionnant. Plusieurs mentions honorables : Chilean Gothic, Dagon, The Haunted Palace, The Ressurected, ainsi que les épisodes H.P. Lovecraft's Dreams in the Witch-House et Pickman’s Model. Semble-t-il que Innsmouth Wo Oou Kage est une adaptation fidèle... mais comme la seule version que j'ai trouvée est en japonais sans sous-titre, je ne peux le confirmer.
